75% goes to the Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp, which gives Wisconsin veterans a free fishing camp experience — lodging, meals, and guided fishing all covered, so their only cost is getting there. More than that, it’s a place for veterans to bond with each other and heal.
25% goes back into the show. Next up for 2027: new projectors and weatherproof, lockable enclosures for them, so the whole setup holds up better and lasts longer.
About
Joy on Wendy Way started in 2018. Ben had wanted to do a light show his whole life, and when his parents wanted their old rope lights replaced, he talked them into something bigger instead — since his own house wasn’t set up for it yet, this was his chance. That first year: one controller, a roofline, windows and doors outlined, four mini trees, two lollipops, two candy canes, and an 800-light spinner that never even made it out of the box. The spinner and the lollipops and candy canes are still in the show today, and always will be.
Ben moved into his current house in 2021. Right after that Christmas, his mom, Kiara, passed away, and his parents’ lights came with him. Now he and his sister run the show together in her memory, sharing the Christmas spirit she loved with everyone who drives by. Her favorite song, Let It Be Christmas by Alan Jackson, is part of the show every year. This is the fifth annual Joy on Wendy Way — funded entirely out of pocket and by donations, every prop built by hand, every light spliced and wired by the two of them, every controller built rather than bought off a shelf. Part of every donation gets passed forward to support veterans.
